Sunny San Diego

Hello from sunny San Diego. Okay, well mostly sunny. I've been here since Monday and from what I hear from Utah I'm glad to be here. I left on Monday just before a snow storm. I got to SD and it was raining. The clouds cleared by the afternoon and it's been partly cloudy and 50-60 degrees. Kinda hard to beat this time of year.

I can't say that it's been all fun, in fact I'm working more than what I typically do back in Utah. There's just that much more for me to do. I have my regular work that I have been doing AND the training and migration work that I'm doing as well. A typical day for me starts at about 5:30 (shower, breakfast and to work by 7am). I grab a quick bite for lunch anywhere between 11am and 2pm (short break) and I leave the office by about 6pm. Then it's dinner and back online until 8 or 9pm. Oh the life.

Once the routine settles I hope to be able to see a few sites in the evenings or maybe have Heather down here for the weekend and do Sea World or the San Diego zoo. I'm getting ideas from my colleagues here...

Heather is not totally alone this week or next - her sister Elizabeth is in town until she goes back home to South Carolina sometime next week. I'm sure there's days coming where she will want some help or some company, so thanks for the invitations - although I think that a trip to Iowa is out of the question...

New things on the horizon

Well, here we go - starting into this family blog thing. I wanted to get something up and going before I get too involved in what's going on at work.

Omniture (the company I work for) just recently closed the deal on an acquisition of a competitor. The newly acquired business has its home office in San Diego, California. I was asked to be part of the team that works with our new office to migrate their clients over to our solution. As such, I will be spending a significant amount of time in the San Diego office over the coming weeks and months. It's quite a responsibility but I'm up to the challenge. The current plan is to fly out to San Diego on Monday morning and fly back to Utah on Friday afternoon/evening. My time on-site will be less and less as the team there comes up to speed.

Heather will be holding down the fort while I'm gone and hopefully won't go insane. The kids have been a little bit of a challenge recently, but I think that part of it is adjusting back from the craziness of the holidays. We hope that the routine kicks in soon. I should note that Heather and I spoke for the better part of a weekend before I accepted my assignment. She's a trooper and hopefully we'll be able to fly her out for a break over a weekend or something as this thing gets underway.

We'll get this up and going with pictures and the whole bit in the next couple weeks.
